From W Amsterdam to W Bangkok: A Beautiful W Memory, “GO GREEN” & a Sustainability Legacy Worth Sharing

10.0

Sawasdee krub! Guten Tag! Goedendag! Bonjour.. I honestly do not quite know where to begin. From the moment Jimmy & I first stepped into W Bangkok, the entire experience has felt absolutely pulchritudinous, magical&& genuinely unforgettable. From Day 0, before we had even properly settled in, through Day 1 and now into our final day, every interaction has continued to create another beautiful memory. The warmth, energy, personality and genuine humanity of your team have made this stay feel like far more than simply staying at a hotel. It has felt like a fairytale continuing from another chapter of my life. A beautiful connection between W Amsterdam and W Bangkok For many years, I have carried a very special memory from W Amsterdam with my late mum, who passed away after living with lupus. At that time, my mum was a top-tier Marriott Bonvoy member and we were waiting in line to check in. Without us explaining her medical condition, one of the W Amsterdam Heartists seemed to instinctively notice that she was tired and offered her a seat while we waited. I will never know whether it was intuition, exceptional observation or simply a beautiful act of human kindness. But somehow, it felt as though the team sensed that my mum needed a little extra care. She had lupus, although we had not told them. That moment stayed with me. It was a small gesture, but it represented something I have always believed about true luxury hospitality. The most powerful moments are not always the grandest ones. Sometimes, luxury is simply noticing that another human being needs a chair, a glass of water, a little patience or a little kindness. And now, years later, something remarkably similar has happened again. I am now here at W Bangkok, and once again I have experienced that same remarkable human intuition, warmth and emotional connection. It honestly felt real. Kevin: a future leader in the making I particularly want to recognise Kevin. Kevin has been genuinely memorable. From the way he built rapport with us to his knowledge, enthusiasm and ability to speak confidently about Marriott International, W Hotels and the wider hospitality ecosystem, he made a very strong impression on me. He was not simply completing a task. He was creating a relationship. He demonstrated curiosity, emotional intelligence, confidence and genuine passion for hospitality. What impressed me most was his knowledge of the Marriott brand beyond simply W Hotels. That broader understanding is incredibly valuable because hospitality is not just about a single property. It is about understanding the wider brand architecture, guest expectations and the emotional reason why guests choose to return. As someone who began my own ACTUARIAL career journey very young and progressed rapidly into management and senior leadership, I recognise potential when I see it. I once progressed into management without a traditional supervisor role and became an Associate Director in my mid-twenties. That journey taught me that talent often reveals itself before a job title catches up. I genuinely hope Kevin is given every opportunity to continue developing his career, whether through a graduate leadership programme, management trainee programme, officer development programme or another structured pathway into leadership. I would love to see him given the chance to shine. Mr. Alexander, Anya and Boom: brilliant, thoughtful and genuinely inspiring I also want to sincerely thank you, Mr. Alexander, as the General Manager of W Bangkok, as well as Anya and Boom. You have all been absolutely brilliant. The way the team has built rapport with us, understood our story and created such a warm relationship has been genuinely special. I was also incredibly inspired by learning more about W Bangkok's sustainability and environmental initiatives. You explained how sustainability is integrated into the DNA of the hotel's operations and guest experience. That really resonated with me because sustainability should never simply be a marketing campaign. Today's guests are increasingly intelligent. People can distinguish between a beautiful social media campaign and genuine action. A hotel can post beautiful images about sustainability on Instagram, but the real question is: What is actually happening behind the scenes? Are resources being reduced? Are operations changing? Are teams being educated? Are guests being invited to understand the hotel's real values? Are environmental initiatives genuinely embedded into the way the property operates? That is where authenticity becomes powerful. “GO GREEN”: sustainability that guests can actually experience I also noticed the “GO GREEN” initiative and the healthy menu options during my stay, and I have to say, I was genuinely impressed. I have attached a photo because I thought it was such a beautiful example of how W Bangkok translates sustainability and wellbeing into something tangible and visible to guests. As someone who personally follows a high-protein, health-conscious diet, I particularly appreciated seeing a menu that connects food, health, wellbeing and environmental awareness. The words “GO GREEN” immediately caught my attention because they communicate such a simple but powerful message. Sustainability does not have to feel complicated or distant. It can be part of what guests eat, how they travel, how they stay and how they experience a hotel. I genuinely thought: “Wow, W Bangkok is actually making sustainability visible to its guests.” That authenticity is incredibly powerful. It gives guests something real to remember and talk about. I believe initiatives such as GO GREEN can become an important part of W Bangkok's wider sustainability legacy and an excellent example of how environmental responsibility, healthy living, guest experience and commercial hospitality can work together. A guest sees the message in the restaurant, experiences the initiative personally, learns more about the hotel's sustainability DNA through conversations with the team, and then carries that story beyond the hotel through word of mouth, reviews and social media. That is far more powerful than simply seeing a sustainability message online. From hospitality to academic and professional legacy Professionally, I work in actuarial science, business, sustainability and public health. My work has involved the intersection of risk, sustainability, HIV/AIDS prevention, health systems and long-term social impact. I am also connected with the actuarial, financial and corporate world through organisations and professional networks involving SCOR, JPMorgan, LVMH and other global organisations. My work is fundamentally about one question: How do we create a positive legacy that lasts beyond the organisation, beyond the individual and beyond the present moment? That is why I genuinely believe W Bangkok's sustainability and hospitality story could potentially be developed into something much bigger. These home works are for you to reflect Authentic Sustainability as a Driver of Luxury Hospitality Brand Equity The Relationship Between Environmental Action, Guest Trust and Customer Loyalty Sustainability as an Omnichannel Guest Experience Strategy From ESG Communication to Authentic Guest Engagement How Sustainability Can Influence NPS, Reputation, Customer Lifetime Value and Hotel Performance The reason I mention this is not because every good story needs to become an academic paper. Rather, I genuinely believe that when a hotel is doing something meaningful, its knowledge should not remain hidden inside the property. It should be shared. A strong case study could potentially be presented to hospitality, business, sustainability, actuarial or social science audiences and could create a legacy for W Bangkok beyond its immediate guest experience. It could allow universities, business schools, professional bodies, major corporations and future hospitality leaders to learn from what your team is actually doing. I would genuinely love to help if there is ever an opportunity. W Bangkok has the story. The question is simply how far that story could travel. To the W Bangkok Housekeeping Team I also want to sincerely thank the wonderful housekeeping team, especially Seng, who came to assist us at around 5.00 pm. There was something genuinely human about the interaction. Hospitality is often judged by the most visible people, such as the General Manager, Front Office or restaurant team. But the truth is that the guest experience is created by everyone. The people who clean the room. The people who prepare the amenities. The people who notice when something needs attention. The people who quietly make the room feel like home. Seng represented that beautifully. I also want to thank the wonderful lady who assisted us at approximately 11.35 pm when we had an issue with Netflix. It was late at night, but she still came to help us with such professionalism and kindness. Those moments matter. They are part of the real NPS. They are part of the real RPS. They are part of the reason guests remember a hotel. A guest may forget the exact room number. They may forget the colour of the lobby. But they remember how a person made them feel. A very special thank you to the Food and Beverage Team I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to the entire F&B team, particularly Jam, GOLF, Pond, Kenta, Baifern, AOM-AM and Mew. And especially Jam & GOLF. Jam & GOLF were incredibly attentive and made me feel genuinely special. The team took the time to understand my dietary preferences and prepared a beautiful special dish for me with no oil and no butter, including grilled beef and high-protein options. As someone who is lactose intolerant and avoids certain oils and butter-based products, that level of attentiveness made a genuine difference. It was not treated as an inconvenience. It was treated as an opportunity to look after a guest. That is exactly what exceptional hospitality should be. The team listened. They adapted. They cared. And they did so with genuine warmth. Thank you, Jam, GOLF Pond, Kenta and Mew, for making our dining experiences so enjoyable and personal. Thank you for the late check-out Finally, thank you so much for arranging the late check-out. My flight is TG471 at 10.30 pm on Monday, 20 July 2026, so being able to enjoy more daylight hours at W Bangkok tomorrow will make I am genuinely excited to enjoy our final day and make the most of the remaining time before our journey home. Jimmy Bagman, A Taiwanese Australian guy mixed with Dutch blood has also absolutely loved his first W Hotels experience. I think you have successfully created another W fan 😂 He has now experienced the W energy, personality, design, service and the people who make the brand what it is. I have a feeling this will not be his last W Hotels stay. My final thank you Mr. Alexander, Anya, Boom, JAM & GOLF (F&B) and the entire W Bangkok team, thank you. Thank you for your brilliance. Thank you for your warmth. Thank you for your intelligence. Thank you for your openness. Thank you for sharing your sustainability story with me. Thank you for allowing me to see the humanity behind the W brand. And thank you to every single person at W Bangkok who has contributed to this experience. From Kevin at the beginning of our journey, to the housekeeping team, the late-night support, the F&B team, Jam, Pond, Kenta, Mew and everyone behind the scenes, every person has contributed to this memory. From W Amsterdam with my mum, to W Bangkok with Jimmy, I feel as though I have experienced two very different chapters of my life connected by the same philosophy: People remember how you make them feel. That is the real meaning of hospitality. And that is why W Hotels has remained so special to me. I will absolutely be sharing our experience through Tripadvisor, Google and Marriott guest feedback, and Jimmy will be sharing his experience too. He genuinely loves the brand now. I hope that one day, when people speak about W Bangkok, they will not only talk about the beautiful rooms, the design, the food or the location. I hope they will talk about the people. The people who care. The people who notice. The people who create emotional connections. The people who make a guest feel that their story matters. and all these words also inspired by my dad who is CEO SCOR for Oceania and Pacific. I can't thank you enough Danke schön. Dank je wel. ขอบคุณมากครับ (Khop khun mak khráp). ขอบคุณสำหรับทุกอย่างครับ (Thank you for everything). ขอให้ทุกคนมีความสุขและประสบความสำเร็จครับ. And most importantly: Merci beaucoup, Mr. Alexander, leadership boards, Anya, Boom Kevin, Jam, and the entire W Bangkok team. ขอบคุณจากใจครับ. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Until next time, W Bangkok. With my warmest regards and appreciation, Just Mart or Dr. Mart (Yonico Martatino) Sydney, Australia, Room 3005

Unreasonable hospitality from W Bangkok

Exceptional hospitality! Shout-out to the entire team and especially Ms Chompu who is a real asset to W Bangkok! She went above and beyond our expectations to make our stay is as comfortable as possible. Just when we thought the hospitality couldn't get any better she would always find a new way to surprise us!
